About the Campground

Click here for more cabin information and maps. Winter travelers need to be able to evaluate avalanche and ice conditions. Motorized access is available only in winter (12/1 to 4/30) and only from the Snug Harbor Road Trailhead. The Russian Lakes Trail is closed year round to motorized vehicles from the Lower Russian Lakes Trailhead to Upper Russian Lake Cabin. Closed to horse/pack stock from 4/1 to 6/30. 3 consecutive days maximum per person from 5/15 through 8/31. Maximum group size allowed is 8. Treat or boil water before consumption. For trail conditions, safety precautions, and Leave No Trace Outdoor Skills and Ethics, please contact the District Office at 907-224-3374. The person holding the reservation must be 18. No commercial use allowed. Cabin is equipped with wooden bunks, table, benches, a stove for heat, and an outside toilet. Mattresses or cooking utensils are not provided. Cabin users should bring their own sleeping bags, pads, cook stoves, cooking gear and food. Click here to visit the Forest Service website for more information. Effective November 17, 2003, reservations for Alaska cabins will be subject to a new policy allowing only one change per reservation. A change in reservation is defined as a modification to the start or end date of the reservation. After one change has been made, if additional changes are desired, the customer must cancel the reservation and at a later time, re-book the new dates. This policy has been established to assure that reservations for cabins are fair and equitable for everyone.

Alerts and Important Information Please be aware that there will be on-going road work occuring on the Snug Harbor Road during the summer of 2010. Traffic delays may be encountered. This cabin will be closed for maintenance from 09/15/2010 through 09/18/2010. Reservations can be made the day of arrival or up to 180 days in advance. If you cancel a cabin reservation within 14 days of your scheduled arrival date, you will be charged the $10.00 service fee and forfeit the first night's recreation use fee. No-shows, Early Departures, or Cancellations after the scheduled arrival date, are not entitled to a refund. Cancellations for single night use for Alaska cabins will not be assessed a service fee. All garbage and food must be packed out. Occasional poor weather can result in extended stays, and cabin users should be prepared.
