About the Campground

Wurts is an original homestead of Frank and Ella Wurtz in the North Fork and is on the National Historic Register. The cabin was recently restored with the help of volunteers, boy scouts, and dedicated Forest Service employees. Wurtz is a disabled accessible two-story cabin with bedrooms on both floors. Wurtz Cabin is located 46 miles north of Columbia Falls, MT on the North Fork Road just south of the Canadian border. Wurtz Cabin is adjacent the Wild and Scenic North Fork of the Flathead River. Wurtz has rustic accomodations including propane cook stove, lights, wood stove, and vault toilet, no water is available. Wurtz's party size is twelve with two double beds, eight single beds. Please pack out what you brought including your garbage. Grizzly Bears live in the area; store your food, beverages, coolers, and garbage inside the cabin. Pets are not allowed at Wurtz. Polebridge Merchentile is located south of Wurtz and has limited supplies. Commercial use of the cabins is prohibited (outfitter guides, groups or organizations with compensated leaders/chaperones).

Alerts and Important Information NOTE: This Site is ADA Accessible. Grizzly Bears live in the area, store your food, beverages, coolers, and garbage inside the cabin. Pets are not allowed at the cabin. -Please Pack it in. Pack it out including garbage, while you are staying at Wurtz. Reservations can be made one day in advance and there is a three night maximum stay limit. Clean the cabin when you leave. Rental fee is $65 per night. -Minor maintenace work may occur while you are staying at the cabin. -For more information contact the Hungry Horse Glacier View Ranger District 406-387-3800 M - F 8am - 4:30pm -Refunds will not be given due to inclement weather, road conditions, too much or little snow, etc. -There are several closed buildings on the site, some are planned for restoration, please respect the closures Combination to the cabin will be inlcluded in your confirmation letter. Please help conserve propane by minimizing the lights you have on and keeping the thermostat to 55 when you are not in the cabin. The firewood provided is for heat only; please do not deplete the supply by using it for outside fires. Please refer to the over the snow motor vehicle use maps for designated snowmobile routes and play areas.
