About the Campground

Open April 1st through November 15th, snow and weather permitting, Coulter Campground is located off State Highway 2 between the little pines and Manzanita Loops of Chilao Campground, 26 miles north of the 210 Freeway in La Canada. The campground is at an elevation of 5,300 feet amid Coulter Pines, Scrub Oaks, and Manzanita. It will accommodate group up to 50 campers. There are 4 tables, vault toilet, group fire ring, and a water faucet.

Alerts and Important Information The Angeles Crest Highway, State 2, is washed out and closed between La Canada 14 miles east to Redbox Saddle. Access to Bandido and Coulter Group Campgrounds from the Los Angeles side of the mountains- drive I-210 to Sunland Blvd exit east towards the mountains to Oro Vista (7-11) turn left and go downhill 3/4 mile the road turns into Big Tujunga Canyon Road. Follow Big Tujunga Canyon Road 12 1/2 miles to the Angeles Forest Highway, turn left towards Palmdale 4 3/4 mile. Turn right onto Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road and go 9.1 miles to the Angeles Crest Highway, turn left and go 7.0 miles to Chilao for Coulter Group and 10.1 miles to the Santa Clara Divide Road to Bandido Group. It is unknown how long this detour will last. Reservations are available 360 days in advance. Reservations must be made at least 4 day in advance. Bears are frequent visitors. All food must be stored properly. No live music or sound systems
