About the Campground

On the shores of lovely Council Lake, this small campground is situated in a mixed stand of hardwood trees and pines. There are four primitive camping sites at Council Lake. Each campsite has a fire pit. A pit toilet is located near site #1. Bring your own toilet paper. Campsites #2 and #3 are located closest to the lake. Site #4 is located next to the day use area. There is a day use area at Council Lake for campers and for the general public that has a grill and picnic table available, as well as a beach that is perfect for lounging and swimming. Canoeists and Kayakers will find Council Lake, and the adjoining two lakes, a relaxing, soothing paddle. Fishing Council Lake is a 14 acre lake with yellow perch, rockbass, bluegill, largemouth bass, black crappie, bullhead and northern pike. Fishing regulations can be found in the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Fishing Guide. Boat Access Boat access at the campground is hand carry in only. However, there is a boat launch on Red Jack Lake, which connects to Council Lake.

Alerts and Important Information This facility does not have first-come, first-serve or walk-in sites available. You can only camp at this facility if you have a reservation and reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance. You must keep a copy of your confirmation letter and have it on you while you are camping as proof of reservation. We do not recommend large campers such as fifth wheels in this campsite due to the narrow, sandy, and winding entrance road. This campsite is better suited to small trailers and tents. There is no drinking water available at this campsite. Your campsite must be occupied the first night and may not be left unattended over 24 hours thereafter. Camping equipment must be located no closer than 50 feet from the lake. No garbage service is available. Please bring garbage bags and take all of your trash with you. This campsite is "Pack it in,Pack it out". Be careful with fire. Fire is allowed ONLY in the fire ring provided. Make sure that your campfire is cold to the touch before you leave your campsite. Only dead and downed wood may be cut for firewood. No firewood from home. Visitors to your campsite must leave by 10 PM. ATV or OHV riding is not permitted within the campground or on the surrounding roads. You must trailer your OHV to trails or roads that are open for use. For more information on OHV riding, please contact the visitor center at 906-387-3700. This Campsite is closed from December 1 to April 30 and not accessible during the snow season. Campers wanting to camp in May or November should check with the local office to find out weather conditions.
